Harmonic Imaging: tissues and microbubbles

CONCLUSION

The introduction of microbubbles precipitated the development of harmonic methods for conventional B-mode imaging and in their own right opened up new opportunities for ultrasound, particularly in the liver where ultrasound now rivals CT and MR in the detection and characterisation of focal lesions. Functional studies with ultrasound are now practicable, though their true clinical role remains to be evaluated.
